When should I use this guide?
Use this guide when installing a telematics device with location, engine hours, Machine Access and a Bluetooth connection.
This guide does not cover installation of an RFID reader.
Requirements
No specific role, permission or package is required. You still need the appropriate skills to carry out the installation.
You need the Machines app on a Bluetooth-capable device, the telematics device or IMEI code, machine details, internet and Bluetooth access, power and ignition access, the standard cable, and the required installation skills.
How to do it
In the app
Register the machine and create a machine card
Open Fleet in the Machines app.
Select Install device.
Scan the device's QR code or enter the IMEI code under Enter IMEI code.
Check that the correct device is displayed and select Add machine data.
Enter the VIN/PIN if available. Machines then retrieves the machine's standard details automatically.
Check and complete the details, such as Internal ID, Category, Manufacturer, Model and Serial number.
Add further details if available. Current machine hours and Current production hours are optional.
Add a machine image or select Continue without a machine image.
Review the details and select Confirm.
Select I have the required skills, start installation.
If you select I will do this later, the machine is shown under Ongoing installation. Open the machine and select Install and verify the device when you want to continue.
If you select Skip guide, Change settings or I will verify later, the device is placed under Ongoing installation. The installation is not completed until you resume and complete the verification.
Choose how the device will be connected
On the Main switch page, select the option that matches the installation:
The device is connected after the main switch
The device is connected before the main switch
I do not have a main switch
Read the information under Cabling and installation options and select OK, I understand.
Select Machine Access
Select Location and engine hours.
Turn on Enable Machine Access.
Leave I have an RFID reader that I want to install turned off.
In Machine Access guide, select View guide. This opens the Vehicle Tracker webpage, where you can follow the Machine Access wiring diagram in the installation manual.
Check that the app recommends the standard cable and continue.
Connect the Machine Access wiring
For an electric or battery-powered machine, the Vehicle Tracker manual instructs you to:
Connect the red power wire through a 3 A fuse to the positive battery terminal.
Connect the black wire to the negative battery terminal.
Connect the yellow wire to the signal that indicates that the motor is running. For many electric machines, the electric motor signal is recommended because the ignition may be left on.
Connect the purple wire according to the relay diagram in the manual. The relay is not included and must match the machine's operating voltage, normally 12 or 24 V.
Check the wiring diagram for the function that will be controlled. The connection may vary by machine and function.
Preferably block only one specific function, such as raising a lift, so that the machine can still be moved in an emergency.
Connect using Bluetooth
On the verification page, select Grant access.
Allow Machines to find Bluetooth devices when iOS asks for permission.
Select Scan and connect.
Wait while the app finds the device and prepares the connection. This may take up to one minute.
Check that DIN 1 has received both ignition ON and OFF.
Enable and disable Machine Access so that the app can receive the signals. The installation can be completed once the device has connected, even if the enable signal is missing.
Keep the internet connection active during verification.
If Device not found is displayed, check Bluetooth and select Scan and connect again.
Mount the device
Once the device has connected, select Mount your device. The installation can be completed even if the enable signal is still missing. Follow the mounting instructions in the app and select Complete.
If it does not work
Check that Bluetooth access is granted, internet access is available, the device is within Bluetooth range, the standard cable and DIN 1 are connected, and both ignition events have been received.
If Device not found is displayed, select Scan and connect and try again.
Tips!
Bluetooth connection may take up to one minute.
Test all connected inputs, outputs and accessories before leaving the machine.
Check that both LEDs flash every second. If positioning is unavailable, move the machine outdoors with a clear view of the sky.
Do not use this guide for an installation with an RFID reader.
