Frequently Asked Questions

How do notifications work?

Notifications help you follow up on events in Machines, for example when an alert has been created for a machine or place.

When an alert is set up, recipients can be selected on Alerts. Your own notification settings then control which types of notifications you want to receive and how you want to receive them.

Where do I change my notification settings?

You change your own notification settings under Settings → Notification settings.

There you can choose which types of notifications you want to receive. You can also control whether notifications are sent by email or shown as notifications in the web platform.

Where do I turn off a specific alert?

If you want to stop receiving messages from a specific alert, the change needs to be made on Alerts.

Changing only your own notification settings is therefore not always enough. Your own settings control which types of notifications you want to receive, while the alert controls which users are recipients for that specific alert.

Why am I not receiving a notification?

First, check that:

  • the relevant notification type is enabled under Settings → Notification settings

  • you are selected as a recipient on Alerts

  • the alert applies to a machine, place, or event that you have access to

  • the notification is sent through a channel you use, for example email or a notification in the web platform

Can I see whether another user receives a specific notification?

You cannot see exactly how another user receives notifications in Machines, for example by email or as a notification in the web platform.

On Alerts, however, you can see the recipient list for a specific alert. If a user is greyed out in the list, it means that the user has turned off their notifications for that alert.

What is the difference between notifications and alerts?

An alert is the rule or event that should be followed up.

A notification is the message sent when the alert should inform a recipient.

This means that both the alert's recipients and the user's own notification settings can affect whether a notification is sent.

Tips

  • Check both your own notification settings and the recipient list on the alert if you are missing a notification.

  • If you want to change which notifications you receive in general, start under Settings → Notification settings.

  • If you want to change a specific alert, go to Alerts.
